Background Context: Gerry entered my life on October 11th, my first day home for fall break. I was spending the night at my Dad’s house in Farmingdale, NY and we had plans to go to the town fair together. Coming across a water gun game booth, I came across Gerry and immediately fell in love with him. His quirky eyes, floppy wings, and the french fry sticking out the sides of his beak filled me with instant joy. In that moment, I knew I needed to bring him back home with me. This comic shows the process of getting Gerry and the journey he took from Farmingdale, to my house in Medford, then finally, my dorm room- his permanent home. He reflects on his travels from that weekend, sharing his encounters with new people and the endeavors he took along the way.

Hi Nikki!
This is so cute!! I was hesitant about the comic option because it takes a lot of creativity (that I don’t have lol), but you did a fantastic job with it!
Gerry’s story is very clear, and his added thoughts really helped tell his story! I can tell how much you love him, and how much he loves you!
The background information was also appreciated. I’m very much a text person, so it was nice to see the story written out from your perspective and then have Gerry’s drawn out.
wonderful job! Your art is so cute!!
Hi Nikki,
I enjoyed reading the little captions next to the pictures. I also found it funny how you referred to yourself as the “blonde girl” in every frame, I think it added a certain level of depth to the story
I really love the way you show Gerry’s inner thoughts throughout his journey! I relate to your ideas of what goes through the “mind” of a beloved stuffed animal, and I really enjoy how the whole comic is from his perspective, showing his thoughts only. I also enjoy the art style and how you chose to place the drawings and the words together. This is amazing!
UGGHH Nikki this was sooo cute!!! I love your formating for this comic, it’s iregular but drives home the idea of Gerry’s journey as if we are looking at a road map! I love his little thoughts and his opinions on some new foods, it really adds to the fun of this work! Again so cute! I’d love to meet Gerry one day!
This. Is. Amazing. I can’t believe I am just seeing this now. I know in my heart that Gerry loves you as much as you love him. He brings a smile to my face every time I see him sitting up on your bed with his eyeballs looking in two directions. I love how you were able to capture your favorite things and incorporate them into this story, like hitting the town with your dad and baking. I also like how your comic illustrates the true journey objects travel on that we wouldn’t otherwise think about until you really pay attention to them.
